Candles are a multi-functional object that are adored by many people across the world – and it seems mostly women have been clued in on the delight that is purchasing new candles. Not only do they bring you light when needed, but there are some beautiful designs that make great table top or shelf accessories, when they’re lit they make the room look romantic and dramatic, AND – most importantly – they make your room smell great!
Now, not all candles are born equal. Some may have a less than desirable scent, some may look naff or basic, and some may not last very long. For those of you who are new to my blog, I’m currently working on helping my brother design and decorate his first home. I’ve been looking for mens candles to add to his space, and judging them based on style, quality, price and scent.
I thought there may be others who may appreciate the information I’ve gathered when deciding on the perfect mens bedroom candles! So I’m now highlighting the top 10 mens candles that I’ve found!

Lot’s of candles tend to be floral, which is typically associated with a more feminine feel. For men’s candles, you will often find scents that are reminiscent of typically ‘manly’ activities – earthy scents for the great outdoors, spice smells that associate with a fine brandy or whisky. Other ingredients such as tobacco and citrus smells tend to be associated with the masculine as well. If you are looking for mens candles when out shopping, look out for these scents:

Molton Brown black peppercorn three wick scented candle – £60
Burn time: 50-60 hours
My number one brand for mens candles, Molton Brown are known for great quality scented products, from candles to bath products. This huge candle comes with 3 wicks for added light and an even burn. The reviews speak for themselves, with many customers going on to buy the candle for friends and family.
The candles tend to create a scent even when they’re not burning, which is a must. The scent is luxurious and spicey, comprising of black peppercorn, coriander and vetiver. The glass casing is a rich, deep brown shade – perfect for a masculine interior.
Place in the middle of your room to get the most out of the scent, and burn for around an hour before guests arrive to get the full complexity from the fragrance.
Goods Smoked Embers scented candle – £30
Burn time: 50 hours
Uniform Standard actually specialise in trainers and shoes, based out of East London. They are now making their way into the mens candles market with this delicious Black Pepper, Tobacco Flower and Smoked Wood scent with undertones of rock rose and nutmeg.
The scent is very masculine, with undertones of sweetness that will have your home smelling absolutely gorgeous. The black casing is incredibly classy, perfect for a minimalist design. More important of all – this candle is incredibly affordable. £30 for a 50 hour burning time, made in the UK and all natural materials is a very fair price.
Stoneglow Luna Sandalwood – £27
Burn time: 40 hours
Stoneglow are a UK based business that specialise in scents, candles and diffusers. They have a wide range of mens candles but this one is my favourite – Sandalwood and Patchouli with undertones of musk, amber and green moss. The smell is intense without being overpowering, and will fill your home delightfully.
This candle has excellent reviews across the web, and all candles are handmade. The packaging is unique and beautiful, with a stunning rose gold/copper coloured badge across the front of the candle – excellent for industrial, mid century modern and modern interior decors.
Noble Isle Whisky & Water Single Wick Scented Candle – £42
Burn time: 45 hours
I’m in love with this candle from Noble Isle, purely for it’s incredibly unique scent. It’s quite sweet compared to other mens candles, with scents of Jasmine, Orange blossom, Davana blossom, Tonka Bean and Amber. However, the scents combine to evoke memories of sitting around a crackling fire, with a spicy malt whisky. The manufacturers descibe the fragrance as ‘smooth, spicy and handsome’ – what’s not to love?
Urban Apothecary black viper candle – £45
Burn time: 60 hours
This apocathery mens candle, named ‘Black Viper’ (could you get a stronger name?) is currently being sold at Next for £45 – quite affordable if you consider the fact that it’s burn time is up to 60 hours!
With scents of leather, sandalwood, oudh, tobacco and saffron – it smells masculine and spicy – you can visit Next and have a sniff in-store if you don’t believe me! The candle itself is glass in a deep maroon shade, which would look great on a shelf or on a coffee table.
Jo Malone Lime & Basil travel candle – £25
Burn time: 18 hours
Jo Malone is an incredibly famous brand, known for their stunning perfumes. Their candles are well respected as well, and this lime & basil travel candle is marketed as a mens candle. The scent is quite light, and smells lovely and fresh, made up of peppery basil and citrusy lime, with an undertone of thyme.
These are great quality candles, and can be bought in multiple sizes. For a ‘travel candle’ (the smallest on offer), you can expect a burn time of 18 hours for £25. If you’re looking for something bigger and longer lasting, check out the Jo Malone website to adjust the sizes.
Beauty Pie Tobacco, Cedarwood & Vanilla luxury scented candle – £20
Burn time: 60 hours
This Tobacco, Cedarwood and Vanilla candle has amazing reviews on Beauty Pie. A typically masculine scent with a light, sweet undertone of vanilla – described by the manufacturer as a ‘sexy’ scent. With a burn time of 60 hours at only £20, this mens candle is highly affordable and looks super stylish, with a dark brown tinted glass casing and light etching in the glass spelling out ‘tobacco’.
Warm sandalwood scented candle – £16
Burn time: 45 hours
This mens candle is human form for a touch of cheekiness (pun intended!). Shaped like a derrier, the design itself is stunning, with an incredibly affordable pricing and a 45 hour burn. The scent is sandalwood and amber, so would be great to burn when guests are round on a cold winters night.
The casing is so pretty that it could easily act as an ornament a long time after the candle itself is finished. There is also a white version of the same candle, and human form sculptures you could also pick up if you are turning this into a theme!
Made.com Concrete & wax Sandalwood and Black Pepper – £45
Burn time: 4 hours (tea light candles are replaceable)
Industrial-meets-modern – that sums up the Concrete & Wax candle from made.com. These candles are reusable as candle holders, with a masculine concrete casing that would look gorgeous in any masculine interior. The fragrance of the tea lights in sandalwood and black pepper – a common fragrance for mens candles.
The burn time is only 4 hours (typical for candles of this size), however the tea lights are replaceable so you will be able to refill these concrete holders at a much cheaper price.
Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille mens candle – £68
Burn time: 40 hours
Did you know that men’s aftershave designers also create mens candles – which is an obvious progression don’t you think? Tom Ford’s website describes this candle as ‘reminiscent of an English gentleman’s club’ – made from tobacco, cocoa, tonka bean and vanilla this is an incredibly opulent scent which will easily fill your home with a beautiful fragrance, whether lit or not.
The price reflects that this is a ‘designer’ candle, and I love the design of the candle itself which would look beautiful on top of a chest of drawers or a side table. There are similar scents on the market for a cheaper price though, so I would recommend this candle as a gift to others, rather than a personal purchase – unless you’re loaded in which case do as you please 🙂
