Botanical bedroom decor is not a new thing – have you noticed that Ikea have been taking advantage of the power of plants in their showrooms for many years now? If you’re looking for botanical bedroom decor ideas, I’m sure you’ve noticed that the most instagrammable hotels and restaurants in the UK are covered in hanging plants, flower walls, floral decor and dramatic lighting – these simple elements are so powerful in literally bringing decor to life, creating a space of true beauty and.. making us happier.

Yes, you heard me – plants and flowers have been proven by science to make us happier – less depressed, less stressed, and healthier. Studies have found that plants in your home can lower your stress response, increase your focus and even boost your creativity. That, on top of the improvements in the quality of air in your space, should be more than enough reason to establish a botanical theme in your bedroom.

You can create a botanical bedroom decor in whatever your preferred style is – floral, jungle, forest, scandi, boho – the list is endless! For any design style that you like, plants will be a great addition. And if you add plant themed items such as floral bedding, jungle wall murals and botanical art it will finish off any room. So if you’re looking for botanical bedroom decor ideas and advice then I have plenty to show you from the hotels and restaurants that hire the top interior design teams!

Botanical bedroom colour palette

If you’re aiming for a botanical themed bedroom, you’re likely going to want to establish a colour palette that echoes this. Greens in various shades are an obvious choice, and always partner well with pink and woody accents, evoking memories of pretty pink roses and cottage gardens. If you’re going for more of a dramatic floral theme, then deep jewel-like colours like purples and emeralds are also a great look.

Botanical bedroom decor ideas – floral furnishings

You can get some gorgeous bedding and pillows online from most well-known retailers, in a range of colours. For more airy bedrooms go for white bedding with blue or green flowers and plants. If you’re wanting to amp up the drama go for deep floral tones, however if you ensure the space remains calming, match these patterned prints with block colours to avoid clashing too many different prints. If you’re going for a floral theme, pastel satins and ribbon also work well for textiles – depending how far you want to lean into the floral theme!

Botanical bedroom decor ideas – Hanging plants (ceiling)

If you’re looking for botanical bedroom decor ideas, hanging plants are a great place to start. Hanging plants and flowers from the ceiling makes such an incredibly dramatic effect, truly making you feel like you’re in your own outdoor oasis. You can see this style all over leading restaurants at the moment, even in the form of hanging ferns and trailing plants, or gorgeous ceilings covered in Jasmine and Wisteria vines. It is one of my favourite looks when it comes to a botanical bedroom, and really sets apart the space from any normal home.

These installations are certainly not for the faint of heart, or those with a strict budget. You’ll have to invest in good quality, artificial hanging plant arrangements – of which there are a few on Etsy. Floral ceiling ‘hoops’, typically popular for wedding decor and restaurants, are also becoming more popular for residential homes. Whilst they can be expensive, they will certainly become a talking point in your home, and bring years of enjoyment.

Potted plants

If you’re looking for botanical bedroom decor ideas, I’m sure you’re already considering potted plants. In this case, I would advise going for real plants – there are a number online that are both affordable and easy to look after. Check out stores like B&M, Ikea and B&Q for some great quality large indoor plants, at great prices.

If you’re looking for botanical bedroom decor ideas, you may also be considering a plant wall – proceed with caution! These can look tacky if done inappropriately or with cheap materials. I would advise sticking to a small area of wall – perhaps and awkward corner or as the background to a desk – to facilitate some low-effort zoning without looking overdone. Again, Ikea (who we know love the power of plants!) have some great plant wall ’tiles’ that you can use – check them out in person before buying to avoid disappointment.

Botanical bedroom wallpaper

I’m in love with botanical wallpaper. Just had to get that off my chest. You can get many different versions, depending on the style you’re going for, with beautiful leafy prints, forest scenes or floral imagery. For my botanical bedroom I’m planning on a mural, which is more of an illustration than repeating patterns – if you have a lot of colours and patterns going on already it may be a good idea to get a botanical mural in black and white/grey to avoid overwhelming the room.

If you’d rather avoid changing the walls, or you live in a rental, then you can get some absolutely stunning prints and paintings online. Kew Gardens, in particular, do the most fantastic botanical illustrations and photography. If you’re open to some crafts, you can also make your own dry pressed flower frames using local wildflowers (or those in your garden) for a more personalised approach.

Botanical bedroom lighting

Plants and flowers are not just a daytime accessory, they can bring the drama at night with the right lighting, as we’ve seen from the use of plants and flowers at trendy hotels and restaurants. For botanical bedroom decor ideas, you should research potlights at the bottom of large indoor plants looks so good at night, with the shadows of the leaves adding interesting depth to a room. You can find great LED spotlights on Amazon for pretty good prices – some which only require batteries.

Another lighting choice that always looks great with botanical themes is neon lighting – I’m not sure why but it just matches perfectly! If you have any neon signage in your room, it can look great in pinks and blues over a bed or a desk, and gives the room a nice bar vibe once the sun goes down!

Best accents for a botanical bedroom

Rattan furniture will always go well with a botanical theme – evoking visions of the tropics, in the depths of the jungle. If you’re going for a tropical theme – then adding in a rattan chair, or rattan headboard, definitely a rattan lampshade or two, will take the look to another level. Even if you’re looking for more of a floral look botanical bedroom decor – rattan and pink furniture such as bedside tables and wardrobes, can look so pretty.

Leather accents also work well, preferably in dark tan tones. At Hotel Indigo we see leather seating matched with velvet, jewel toned footstools, statement rattan chandeliers and towering indoor plants. For your design, your botanical bedroom decor can be elevated with either incorporated leather chairs or, a cool leather suitcase/plant pot hybrid like Hotel Du Vin put together in their botanical themed bedroom recently.
