Why Yark Beds Reviews?

In June 2021 I was faced with a problem. The new build we had purchased 6 months earlier had finally finished building – a month early! We were, of course, ecstatic – until they started pressuring us to complete within a week. Luckily, we were able to leave our old home quickly, and were in the new place within 2 weeks.. but without a bed..

I hadn’t purchased my own bed before, having always gone second hand, so I was NOT prepared for the wait times. 8 weeks for a bed? Surely not! Faced with the prospect of sleeping on the floor for 2 months, I took my research into hyper-drive. I had 3 things in my criteria – I had to LOVE the design of the bed, it had to arrive within 2 weeks, and I obviously had to be able to afford it.

Enter Yark Beds. Yark beds are not sponsoring this post in any way, shape or form. There are no affiliate links in this post. This is just my honest feedback on my Yark bed after a year of usage. I’m writing this because I had to do a ton of research myself, and Yark Beds aren’t (or weren’t) hugely known at the time, so I took a risk purchasing this bed.

Spoiler alert for this Yark Beds review, I recommended this brand to my brother, who has just moved into his own place and who was as unorganised as I am (family trait?) – so there will actually be two yark beds reviews combined in this blog post.

Design – 9/10

So my husband and I both have a weird-ish favourite colour – green. Not any green, it has to be sage green specifically. Now if you go and google sage green beds right now, you will see there is not much on offer. Imagine my surprise when I saw that Yark beds have a bed in my favourite colour?? Obviously we had to get it. It was only offered in a velvet material but that was more than fine with us. Other colours have options in normal fabric or boucle.

Other colours on offer were dark blue, dark green, a variety of greys, baby blue, cream (oatmeal) and baby pink. My brother eventually got one in a dark grey, which I also think looks great, particularly the way he’s styled it. The dark grey one is slightly lighter than pictured on the website, although unmistakably a dark grey, whilst our sage green bed is a slightly more neutral sage green colour, although we’re still delighted with it.

In terms of style – I knew that I wanted a kingsize bed with a massive chesterfield/buttoned headboard. At Yark they let you tailor your design, so you can opt for any of the headboards offered with any colour and size. The headboard we got is around 140cm high, which makes a nice dramatic impact on an otherwise bare room (as pictured, I eventually created a little flower crown to put on top, you can read more about that here).

We also got it in the ottoman version (so did my brother) because… storage is king. They offer two types of ‘storage’ beds, one with drawers and the other with a ‘gas-powered’ contraption thingy which means you can lift the entire top of the base off. We got the second one because it sounded cooler. For this Yark beds review, I’m giving a score of 9/10. – purely because some other retailers have a bigger variety of beds – however I LOVED everything at yark beds so it’s stll got a great score.

Price – 10/10

Ok, the price was what had me nervous that Yark Beds were a scam. I looked for hours, days, maybe even a week, whilst researching a bed that could deliver quickly and that was in our price range. I did not come across any that were as cheap as this. None. Even Ikea costs a fair bit more for a similar design.

My brother bought his chesterfield, ottoman, velvet double bed for around £299 (I think they had a sale on at the time). I dare anyone to find a better deal when it comes to beds.

I’m not sure how they manage it. On the website it says:

“Manufacturing our bed parts ourselves means we can cut out a whole league of middlemen, maintaining sky high quality standards and a surprisingly reasonable price point”

I don’t know how they do it but I’m not complaining. What a steal! For this yark beds reviews I’m giving 10/10 because this price is UNMATCHED, in my research at least.

Delivery – 9.5/10

This is a hard one to score because the delivery time was epic. I think at the time you could ask for next day delivery! We opted for the bed to be delivered in a couple of days (on a weekend when we’d be home) but still, so much better than having to wait the 6-8 weeks other retailers were claiming to be the norm.

So, the delivery time was epic. However, we live in a 3 bed house with 3 floors… and they delivered it to our front door and no further. I know, beggars can’t be choosers. But it was a slog getting everything up the stairs. Bearing in mind we had also ordered a mattress from Yark Beds at the same time (more on that later) which was humungous and SO HEAVY. For that I’ll have to deduct a point.

There were times I almost gave up. It looked like it wasn’t going to fit. It looked like we were going to scratch every single wall of our brand new house. The shouts and screams of ‘PIVOT’ filled the night air. Yet we persisted, and we are glad we did. Just don’t ever ask us to take it back down – it’ll die in that room.

I would honestly feel terrible making a delivery guy go through what we went through, but I’m still going to remove a point from the score for this yark beds review – just because.

Assembly – 7/10

Once we had broken our backs carrying the thing up the stairs, it was time to assemble. By this point we had put together around 7/8 Ikea flat packs in the space of a week – so we were ready. There were also 2 of us and we were armed with a power drill. In short, I found assembly really, really easy. We had a small instruction manual outlining what to do, and there was a video on Youtube. If this was based on my experience alone I’d be scoring a 10.

My brother, unfortunately, had a difference experience. Whether it is because he attempted it alone, without a power drill, or he is just a simple novice, I don’t know. He really struggled with the ottoman part of the assembly, which he eventually gave up on (he is waiting for my husband to lend a helping hand). He thinks that some of the drill holes don’t line up properly, but I can neither confirm nor deny (I’ll update this post once my husband has a look).

Outside of the ottoman part, he managed to do it all by himself and he is still able to sleep on it as-is, so I won’t be too harsh with my score. In terms of our yark beds reviews, both of myself and my brother – this was much much better than putting together an Ikea bed – so if you have been through that particular type of trauma, do not fear.

Quality – 9/10

For the price, we were nervous about the quality, very nervous. There were barely any Yark beds reviews online, so we took a gamble. However the quality was perfection – genuinely better than some other more expensive items of furniture that I have. The worst thing I can say is that my brothers had some wood chips on it when it initially arrived (obviously straight from the factory) – however he was able to easily get them off with a bit of a hoover.

The bed is SUPER sturdy, the velvet feels lovely and soft, the ottoman works great (for those of us who completed assembly, at least) and has a huge amount of storage. The stitching on the fabric of the bed was perfect, the wooden slats were easy to assemble and feel high quality.. yeah I cannot find a single thing to complain about.

Even a year on, we have not had a single issue. Nothing has started unravelling, or cracking, or coming apart. We love it, and so for these Yark Beds reviews we’ll keep a score of 9/10 for quality (would have been 10/10 if not for the pesky woodchips).

Note about Yark Bed mattresses

As mentioned earlier, we also bought a Yark Bed mattress. In the interests of giving the most honest of Yark Beds reviews – we hate this mattress with a passion. That’s the risk of buying a mattress online – you can’t give it a bounce and squeeze before you buy.

It’s massive (I have to buy XL sheets to cover the thing), and it’s extremely soft, even though we got medium firmness. We’ve discovered we actually like a firm bed, so we are not particularly happy with it, but we spent a lot of money on it AND we went through hell to get it up the damn stairs.

If you’re looking for Yark Beds reviews about the mattresses on offer – here I am telling you not to bother. Unless you like soft mattresses or you’re able to go and try before you buy.

Final Yark Beds reviews score & conclusion – 4.6/5

I love this bed. I recommended that my brother buy this bed. So now we both have Yark beds. We’re becoming a Yark Beds family, making Yark Beds reviews.

The quality is good, it took two of us around an hour to put it together, we’ve had zero issues, it’s CHEAP. If you’re thinking about it, because you need an affordable, stylish bed or you’re looking for a fast-delivery bed because you’re running out of time/patience, just do it!
