Living Cozy recently published a report on colour trends for 2022, based on analysis of 12 months of google search history globally, and found that green is the number 1 googled colour for every single room type. So it’s no surprise that you’re googling sage green bedroom ideas! You’re in great company 🙂
Is sage green a good colour for a bedroom? ABSOLUTELY! Sage green is a calming colour which lends well to the vast majority of design styles. Sage green is reminiscent of the colours we would find in nature, and works well to add a pop of colour to more muted colour schemes, whilst blending beautifully with brighter colours in more ambitious colour schemes.
What colours go with a sage green bedroom
We see sage green bedrooms often being paired with either grey, white or pink as a secondary colour, however you are by no means limited to that colour scheme.
As mentioned before, sage green is an incredibly versatile colour which comes in a range of hues, and contrasts. If you’re looking for Sage Green paint colours – Dulux’s Fresh Sage is a good choice for a dark sage, and Willow Tree is the closest to the lighter sage colours we typically see in sage green bedroom ideas photos.
Below we see Dulux’s recomended pairings for these two sage green colours:

Fresh Sage is beautifully paired with a muted blue (what I would call petrol blue), and – more alarmingly- roasted red! This may come as a surprise, but if we are to think of the colour combination of a Persian rug, for example, we often see reds and greens being matched together with stunning results.

Willow Tree’s colour combinations are perhaps a little more obvious – with light greys, dark greens and blush pinks being recommended. Again, we see the inclusion of dark red – perhaps this is something that we will see more often in 2023!
Another colour combination we’re seeing a lot of on instagram and Tiktok is sage green matched with lilac or heather purple as a secondary colour, and blueberry tones as an accent colour. This is something I personally love, and I believe we’ll be seeing a lot more of it in the future.

White & Sage Green bedroom ideas
Sage green is a stunning addition to neutral colours schemes – particularly as a secondary colour to a white colour scheme, with beige accent colours. You’ll see this colour scheme most often pairing with medium oak and beautiful, cosy textiles.

Grey & Sage Green bedroom ideas
For a modern sage green bedroom – grey and sage green is another classic, and can really add depth to a room. If you’re particularly focussing on a more masculine and/or moody colour scheme – a charcoal and sage green bedroom is a classic pairing and is difficult to get wrong!

If you’re opting for a charcoal colour scheme, opt for darker wood accents such as chesnut or walnut. If you’re opting for a lighter grey & sage green bedroom – oak works really well. This is a particularly good pairing for more modern design tastes, and both look great with black metal decor and modern shapes.

Pink & Sage green bedroom ideas
I feel like blush pink and sage green is such a classic colour combination, one which we’ve seen reimagined many times from the 60s green and pink bathrooms to the 90s floral sofas. This colour is likely so popular because it imitates the colours we’d see in a beautiful country garden.

This is perhaps why the new lilac and sage green design trend is becoming so popular – it does remind me of the colours we see in a beautiful lavender field at the height of summer. If you’re opting for a pink and sage green bedroom – gold accents and white textiles work beautifully. For those of you jumping on the heather & sage green trend – opt for brass decor and finishings with slight hints of a darker blue in your space to add contrast.

How to decorate a sage green bedroom
Modern Japandi sage green bedroom
If you’re looking for a more modern sage green bedroom design, I would highly recommend Japandi. A focus on natural materials such as wood and stone, coupled with clean lines and a minimalist design style.

A Japandi sage green bedroom will incorporate neutral tones such as greys and beiges, along with wood panelling and concrete/ceramic decor. I LOVE the look of Belmarte’s walnut wood-panelling effect wallpaper with the sage green background in the image below in particular.

If Japandi is your preferred style, you can find more about Japandi wall art & wall paper inspo here, and more Japandi style advice here.
Boho sage green bedroom
We know that sage green looks AMAZING with rattan furniture, right? But it also looks incredible with terracotta accents! And funnily enough, rattan and terracotta are two of the most obvious calling cards of the Boho decor style.
If you’re opting for boho, it’s also an excuse to go maximilist with your indoor plants – bonus points if they’re housed in macrame hangings!

The boho style often calls for fun patterns too – whether that is through bold prints, throw cushions or throws. I particularly love this Sage green throw blanket from Amazon, complete with tassels and a repeating pattern, which will look great in a boho sage green bedroom.

Traditional sage green bedroom
A great choice for sage green bedroom design, the Traditional decor style has had a huge resurgence over the past few years, thanks to influencers like McGee and Co bringing this flavour of decor to our screens.

This is a slightly moodier design, that plays cleverly with contrasting colours and materials. In this decor style, sage green looks great when paired with darker neutral greens such as khaki or olive colours, with accents of black and white for maximum contrast!
This is perhaps one of my favourite styles, purely for how classy yet cosy it looks when it all comes together. This is a great opportunity to bring in that persian rug with it’s reds or blues, and to go searching for plenty of vintage prints to hang on the walls.

Victorian feminine sage green bedroom
So I know I said traditional was one of my favourites, but victorian feminine styles are my absolute favourite. An elegant take on maximilism, this is your chance to be more adventurous with pretty colours that we know work beautifully with sage green bedrooms.
Think pinks, blues and purples, incorporated on your pillows, bedding and rugs in beautiful intricate patterns. Add additional interest through wall murals, panelling and ceiling moulds, to bring back some of that old (olddd) school glamour. If you’re looking for sage green and lilac bedroom ideas then this is an incredible starting point!

Whilst sage green and pink has been one of the most popular colour pairings, I truly think ‘heather’ or ‘lavender’ purples will be a huge style trend over the next couple of years, with muted blues or greys as an accent colour.
I love the added interest floral prints bring to a room, matched with the muted tones of mauve and sage green. Again, this style looks great with mid-tone woods such as oak, and gold or champagne coloured metals.

I have to quickly show you this beautiful purple ceramic lamp from Amazon, which would look incredible in a victorian feminine sage bedroom. This lamp would look stunning on top of a tall wooden dresser, with a background of sage green.

Botanical sage green bedroom
Probably the most obvious decor style to associate with sage green is the botanical bedroom! Botanical bedrooms should be heaped with plants and plant prints, and often incorporate modern gold hardware and/or rattan furnishings.
In terms of colour scheme – there are no set rules, just remember to keep it light. A botanical decor style equates to a calming sage green bedroom, so light colours should be prioritised – such as white, creams, light woods and blush pinks.

I also think the below jewellery case would look so pretty in a Botanical bedroom, on top of a white dressing table – particularly if you wear gold jewellery.

If you search for sage green wall art on google, you’ll most likely find that most of it is botanical anyway – so you’ll already have a head start!

[…] If you’re not a fan of white/cream walls (hey, me neither!), then choose your favourite shade for your walls and use the rest of the colour palette for your accents, such as your rug, throw and pillow. Olive or sage green is my personal favourite – and if you’re interested in more sage green bedroom inspo you can check out my post on that subject here: How to style your sage green bedroom: 23 stunning ideas […]
